should be a saint. Indeed, for a Christian to live in a state of sin is a monstrous contradiction”.

The Second Vatican Council left us a very beautiful meditation on Mary Most Holy
Let me
(Pope Francis) just recall the words referring to the mystery we celebrate today: “The immaculate Virgin preserved free from all stain of original sin, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, when her earthly life was over, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things” (no. 59).
Then towards the end, there is: “The Mother of Jesus in the glory which she possesses in body and soul in heaven is the image and the beginning of the Church as it is to be perfected in the world to come.
Likewise, she shines forth on earth, until the day of the Lord shall come” (no. 68).   Pope Francis

Your first task is to be dissatisfied with yourself, fight sin, and transform yourself into something better.
Your second task is to put up with the trials and temptations of this world that will be brought on
by the change in your life and to persevere to the very end in the midst of these things

If we want to grow in the love of Jesus
In every Catholic home, even the poorest, you can find a Rosary.
In moments of joy or sadness, when believers turn to God, they pray the Rosary...
In Lourdes, the Immaculate prayed on her Rosary beads and encouraged Bernadette to recite it with her.
If we want to grow in the love of Jesus, we must meditate the mysteries of the Rosary with Mary,
constantly repeating and whispering the Ave Maria.
Nobody in the world, even among the angels, has loved and loves the Lord Jesus as much as the Mother of God.  --Saint Maximilian Kolbe

What is the Respect Life Program?
NEW materials are produced each year to help Catholics understand, value, and become engaged with supporting the dignity of the human person, and therefore the gift of every person's life. Materials are developed for use in parishes, schools, and faith-based ministries, but are also suitable for individual use. The program begins anew each October
(Respect Life Month) and continues through the following September.

Because of prayers during the campaign 2016 that just ended, 872 babies were spared from abortion
when their mothers chose life at the last possible moment.
They were scheduled to be aborted ... but they are alive today --
and often it was the sight of faithful people praying outside the abortion center that made all the difference in the world.

Since 40 Days for Life started as a coordinated effort in 2007,
we are aware of 12,668 children whose mothers had a change of heart and said "yes" to life.

SCRIPTURE
My power is made perfect in weakness. -- 2 Corinthians 12:9
Holy Week: A Liturgical Explanation for the Days of Holy Week

Tuesday, January 24, 2017

Hebrews 10:1-10 ;  1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices which are continually offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near.2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered? If the worshipers had once been cleansed, they would no longer have any consciousness of sin.3 But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sin year after year.4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.5 Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, "Sacrifices and offerings thou hast not desired, but a body hast thou prepared for me;6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings thou hast taken no pleasure.7 Then I said, `Lo, I have come to do thy will, O God, 'as it is written of me in the roll of the book."8 When he said above, "Thou hast neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings" (these are offered according to the law),9 then he added, "Lo, I have come to do thy will." He abolishes the first in order to establish the second.10 And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Ephesians 3:8-12 ; 8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to make all men see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; 10 that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose which he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and confidence of access through our faith in him.

Psalms 40:2, 4, 7-8, 10-11 ;  1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. 3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. 6 Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire; but thou hast given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering thou hast not required. 7 Then I said, "Lo, I come; in the roll of the book it is written of me;9 I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; lo, I have not restrained my lips, as thou knowest, O LORD. 10 I have not hid thy saving help within my heart, I have spoken of thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness from the great congregation.

Psalms 37:3-6, 30-31 ; 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so you will dwell in the land, and enjoy security. 4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your vindication as the light, and your right as the noonday. 30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.

Mark 3:31-35  ;  31 And his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside they sent to him and called him. 32 And a crowd was sitting about him; and they said to him, "Your mother and your brothers are outside, asking for you." 33 And he replied, "Who are my mother and my brothers?" 34 And looking around on those who sat about him, he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother."

John 15:9-17 ;  9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. 17 This I command you, to love one another.

Blessed are they who have kept the word with a generous heart and yield a harvest through perseverance.

Please pray for those who have no one to pray for them.

Now there is a great difference between believing in Christ, and in believing that Jesus is the Christ.
For that he was the Christ even the devils believed;
but he believes in Christ who both loves Christ, and hopes in Christ.  -- St. Augustine

The Virgin Mary of Nazareth
The First Moment of Christian Tradition Began in Mary's Heart (III)
Today her intercession has proved to be amazingly powerful...

When faith is strong it works wonders ( Mk 16:17 ).

Mary's heart is not a document, it's a source. "She stored up all these things in her heart"
(Lk 2:19 & 51), and that was the Word of God.

The Protestant Soldier and the Icon of Our Lady (II). Our Lady of Damascus (Syria)
Once I had gathered my wits, I found that I was still holding the icon in my hands. I would never rid myself of it again. I later took it home with me as a souvenir of the great protection that I had had from it. So I put my treasure in the inside pocket of my jacket.

That night, we counter attacked. Machine and submachine guns sowed death in our ranks. During a lull, I felt my chest for my icon. To my amazement I found a bullet imbedded in its back, which was covered with a fairly thick layer of copper. That bullet should have pierced my heart. I was so moved and full of gratitude that tears came to my eyes. Then I placed my dear Madonna back on my heart.

This all took place many years ago. But I have never forgotten how the icon of the Mother of God saved my life. I told this story to my wife and my children. The whole family now lovingly venerates Our Lady who brought back a father safely to his children, and a husband safely to his wife. Today, the icon hangs in a niche in a place of honor in our home. Every day, my family and I gather around Our Lady, adorned with flowers and lit candles, to say our prayers. Why has devotion to Mary, Mother of Jesus, been deleted from our religion?  Saarbrucken (Germany), November 22, 1948 (by A. Dewald).
Reported and translated by Brother Albert Plfeger, Marist, in his Recueil Marial 1980

"We begin our day by seeing Christ in the consecrated bread,
and throughout the day we continue to see Him in the torn bodies of our poor.
We pray, that is, through our work, performing it with Jesus, for Jesus and upon Jesus.

The poor are our prayer. They carry God in them. Prayer means praying everything, praying the work.
We meet the Lord who hungers and thirsts, in the poor.....and the poor could be you or I or any person kind enough
to show us his or her love and to come to our place.

Because we cannot see Christ, we cannot express our love to Him in person.
But our neighbor we can see, and we can do for him or her
what we would love to do for Jesus if He were visible.
"

I belive in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, and in His only Son our Lord Jesus Christ, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontious Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.  He descended amoung the dead; After three days He rose from the dead, He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty from whence He will come again in glory to judge the living and dead, and His Kingdom will have no end.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and Son, through the Father and Son He is worshiped and glorified, and He has spoken through the prophets. I believe in the Holy Spirit,  in one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, the communion of saints, one baptism for remission of sins, resurection of the dead, and life everlasting Amen.

H.M.  Dr George Frier my Physics Professor and great friend 30 years and to the end of time,  R.I.P George; died at the age of 90 on May 13th. Professor Freier received both his M.S. (1942) and Ph.D. (1949) degrees from the University of Minnesota. He joined the Physics faculty in 1949 and continued until his retirement in 1985. Professor Freier's research area was atmospheric physics; he was often featured in weather related stories by the local press. During his career he led the development of lecture demonstrations both in our department and the broader physics community. The American Association of Physics Teachers presented Dr. Freier with a Distinguished Service Citation in 1983 in recognition of his contributions to undergraduate education, specifically citing his lecture demonstration activities. The University named Tate Lab Room 135 the George D. Freier Lecture Demonstration Facility in 2002 to honor his pioneering work.  Professor Freier is survived by his daughter Susan Freier and husband Harold Levene of San Diego; son David of St. Paul;
H.M.  Dr. Phyliss Freier, AstroPhysicist, Phyliss, who discovered heavier nuclei in the cosmic radiation. In the immediate post-World War II era, Minnesota was a leader in cosmic-ray and nuclear physics. Minnesota physicists Phyllis Freier, Edward Ney and C. Jake Waddington discovered the first evidence of heavy ions in cosmic rays. Thus began the stellar tradition in balloon, rocket and satellite-borne research in space physics and astrophysics that continues to this day.  r.i.p, and pray for all of us too;  Phyllis Freier, E.J.
